Actually, when I was in 9th grade, I don’t know what happened—I couldn’t stop thinking about a girl’s words, day and night. I went completely crazy, obsessing over that one thing all the time. Then in 10th grade I became very unwell from overthinking; nothing helped, and I started getting terrible headaches. After that, I distanced myself from her when I entered 11th grade, and though I still thought about her, it eased off a bit. Now she’s going to be in my class again, and it’s happening all over—I’m thinking about it nonstop. What should I do?

Hi Parimay, thanks for the question. I can only imagine the thoughts going on in your mind. Question for you- was that thought helping you in someway that is telling you something about yourself or was it a remark? I am asking because understanding the intention is important. Overthinking occurs because there is a lack of control over past events, expectations or just uncertainty towards what was meant. A few simple and general things you can do to ease overthinking is taking a deep breathe when the thought comes up. Ofcourse, this is not a permanent solution, for that we have to delve deep into the cognitive and see your patterns. Let me know if this worked for you.
